So, I sort of dropped off the face of the earth for the past week and a half. It has been a very very busy last 10 days. I picked up some extra time at work, which lead to me moving everything else in the week around, topped off with family time, super secret fathers day missions, traveling around, learning, and a little redecorating.

I'm not sure if my need for extra sleep lately is because of the busyness, or it's because of the tiny human that doesn't feel so tiny.

Let's see…what have we missed in the past week…


Back to School:

Well, last Monday I started a course to become a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. It's something I've always wanted to do, and now just seemed like the right time. It is a structured, 9 week long course. After which, I'll take the test late August.

Ultimately (ie. over the next year) my plan is to continue after this first certification to a specialized cert. in Women's Fitness. I'd like to work with women, particularly pre and post natal. I think there is a lot of confusion about what women can and cannot do while they are pregnant. I also think that nutrition is pushed to the wayside during pregnancy, when it is actually most important. Then after the baby is born, taking care of ourselves takes a back seat to everything else going on in life.
Exercise and nutrition can be very beneficial to conception, a healthy and more comfortable pregnancy, and after. I also believe there is a lot of value in all women learning how strong and capable we are.

There are a few more goals I have further than that…but these are my immediate two.


Puppies: 

The dogs are doing well…one making me a little more crazy than the other.

During the week Harper is on a schedule of 5am wake up and go outside, and then she comes back in, follows us around watching us get ready for work or the gym, eats, and sleeps another few hours.
On the weekend PJ and I sleep only until 6 (I know, were insane). In that hour from 5 - 6,  Harper get's really antsy about being the only creature awake. This past weekend in that short little hour, she chewed up another comforter.
That is the only time she ever chews up anything of ours. It's so bizarre.

The weekday schedule is very important because it gives her comfort of knowing what to expect and when to expect it. And she is doing a fantastic job considering she is only 9 months old. We never have accidents in the house and like I said, usually she doesn't every chew on anything that isn't hers. That hour on the weekend is really getting us.

The solution I came up with is filling her kong with a peanut butter and mushy dog food mixture the night before, and freezing it. When I get up to use the bathroom in the wee hours of the morning, I give it to her. She eats it for an hour, and then passes right back out. It's a nice little mental stimulation in the morning to exhaust her.


Paleo:

I've figured out the secret to Paleo. First of all…about 2 weeks ago PJ asked me when we could go back on Paleo. I'm always in support of us eating well (and having him request it was the pregnant lady push I needed to get in gear), so I said "Tomorrow", then headed to the grocery store.

The first few days I kept getting stuck on what to eat in the middle of the day. Breakfast is easy, dinner is easy…but during the 3+ times I eat midday, I was having trouble putting stuff together that was keeping me and this hulk child full long enough.
The secret is the crock pot! At the beginning of the week I'll make a huge batch of something in the crock pot, and we both have it to use all throughout the week. I've been trying to make things that are versatile and we can do a few different things with, so they don't get boring.
Last week I made a spicy chicken dish, and yesterday I made a lemon, garlic chicken dish. When I say huge batch, I'm talking 8 chicken breasts.

If you are on Paleo, or just looking for a way to prep a lot of healthy food for the week, I would definitely search some Paleo crock pot recipes. It has been a huge time saver and having it readily available keeps from unwanted snacking.



Now that were all caught up, I'll see you guys tomorrow for a delicious food and training filled Wednesday.
