We Are Here...34 Weeks

Friday, August 9, 2013

Warning: This post is not as jolly as usual. The last two weeks have been tough. Week 33 and 34 brought on a whole new round of crazy. I'm standing at the door of 35 weeks though (tomorrow) and I'm hoping some of this weird stuff will even out.

34 Weeks 5 Days

Body and Mind:

Everything is puffy. Stay Puft Marshmallow puffy. I've been so thirsty lately, that I'm drinking an increased amount of water...and my body is holding on to every last bit of it.

I'm also extremely tired, yet I can't get into a deep sleep at night because I have to use the bathroom so often, and because I'm waking up every few hours for no good reason at all. I'd give anything for one of those really hard, I don't know where I am, sort of sleeps.

As you can see, the baby is putting on some weight in there. My belly is now very hard, because she is growing, growing, growing, and running out of room. It's also pretty uncomfortable, and normal activities, such as putting on pants, are both hilarious and challenging. The pressure upwards into my rib cage and organs hurts sometimes.

My crotch hurts. Well, it's more the pelvic, pubic and hip bones. I've read that this is because of the added weight of the baby this time of the pregnancy, and because she is starting to move down further. It hurts. The bones feel sensitive to the touch.

My emotions are out of control. Normally I'm a very even tempered, logical person. I rarely get angry or upset, and when I do, I spend a lot of time processing before I accept the feeling/emotion. I'm also very happy...all the time. It actually freaks people out.

Well these hormones have taken over my body. I've been having a really hard time keeping my shit under control. I don't feel like myself and I'm doing/feeling the opposite of everything I usually do/feel. It has been a roller coaster.

All of these things mean one thing...were getting closer! I've packed the hospital bags, and her room is almost ready. Nesting is in full swing. Were doing a few projects in the house and getting rid of a lot of crap. Not to mention I'm in a cleaning frenzy!

Food:

I've been doing a pretty good job at sticking to primal/paleo about 80% of the time. Just the past few days cereal has made a come back. I don't know what it is about it, sometimes I just really want some cereal. My go to is Life. Guilty pleasure.

Monday PJ and I had a cheat meal of buffalo chicken pizza. It tasted amazing. We made a bet on who's body would get angry first...since we don't usually eat that stuff. I won! Within less than 30 minutes I was full on stomach ache and parked in the bathroom. My body wanted to get rid of that pizza as quickly as possible. It did taste so good though. Totally worth it.

I haven't had any really weird pregnant lady food combinations lately. I'm just very hungry...but that's nothing new. I've been eating a lot of chicken and whole avocados. It's my go to snack. And smoothies. I have taken a break from my overload of sweet potatoes.

Training:

Even though I haven't been feeling top notch lately, I'm still working out 5 days a week. I feel very fortunate because I actually feel my best when I'm working out. Getting my heart and my body moving really does wonders for me.

Last weeks workouts:

Sunday: 1 hour spinning, 4 miles walking with dogs

Monday: 45 minutes elliptical, resistance training (upper and lower), 3 miles walking with dogs

Tuesday: Off from gym, 3 miles walking with dogs

Wednesday: 45 minutes elliptical, resistance training (upper and lower), 4 miles walking with dogs

Thursday: 40 minutes elliptical, 3 miles walking with dogs

Friday: Off from gym, 3 miles walking with dogs

Saturday: 1 hour spinning, resistance training (upper and lower), 3 miles walking with dogs

In these last 5 weeks I'm hoping to keep it up! The baby seems to love it, and let's be real here...she's calling the shots. I'm very thankful that she's so into being active already. I don't know how I would be a functional member of society if I had to stop working out.

I'm really excited to get back into training for some races. I've already started shopping a few for early 2014.

Pounds Gained: 21

Cravings: Cereal, Chicken and Avocado, Almond Milk

Aversions: Nothing

Braxton Hicks: They started! I've had a few now, randomly. My uterus is practicing and getting ready for the big show.

Work: A few weeks ago I cut my hours down a lot, and next week is actually my last week before maternity leave. I'm excited to take some time to get everything ready for the baby. I'm also looking forward to taking a little bit of time to myself before she comes. I've never just had time off from everything. It's going to be glorious.

Am I Ready?: YES! I'm ready for labor, I'm ready for delivery, and I'm ready to have this baby girl!

Have a great weekend everyone!!!!

  1. Ahhh the cereal craving. I had that too. I think it is all the added folic acid that draws pregnant women in. At least that is what I told myself- lol. Keep up the great work Tami! This baby business will be a piece of cake for you!

  2. I'm sorry it's been a tough couple of weeks, but like you said - you're getting so close!! Home stretch! I'm sure it makes it a little easier knowing you're going to meet your baby girl (relatively) soon. And you still really are rocking the workouts. For as tired and uncomfortable as you say you feel, I'm impressed with the level of physical activity you do each day. Hopefully you'll be able to continue right up to the very end. And I'm hoping that I'm still going strong 10+ weeks from now! I know I can't count on being able to run forever, but as long as baby keeps responding well to physical activity, I plan to keep doing it.

    1. Knowing shes coming soon does make it so much easier! You're already more than halfway too! You'll get to meet your little girl soon as well. I was just thinking...we are growing the next generation of bad ass racers! Haha.
I'm so glad you're still going strong on the running. I'm sending positive vibes that you'll be one of those women who run all the way up until the end!!!

  3. Awwww, these past few weeks don't sound like they have been super fun. If it makes you feel any better, you look fabulous and I think your weekly activity has exceeded mine :) awesome job keeping up with the workouts and healthy eating! Sending you hugs through the interwebs and crossing my fingers for you that next week brings better things. Oh and that the next 5 weeks fly by so you can meet your little girl AND have your body back!
