Recent Happenings Around Our House...

I totally underestimate my tiny human.

Last night at bath time I placed a bottle of Lavender essential oil on the counter in the bathroom, just out of Aria's reach. (I planned to use it after her bath, to help her relax, as she has not been sleeping well lately.)

Quickly she realized that I had placed it out of her reach. Without hesitation, she grabbed the hair brush that was on the floor, and used it to move the bottle to the edge, where she grabbed it!

Oh man are we in trouble!

She looks pretty innocent doesn't she…
Don't be fooled.

The bacteria and viruses of the season have been rocking our house already. It feels like every time Aria get's over something, she get's sick again. These last two sicks have been the pits! Her sleep is completely turned upside down. It's brutal. And it's just so sad when kids feel so awful and there's nothing you can do. Not to mention I haven't slept more than 3 hours at night in the past month.

Last night I brought Aria into bed with us because she was running a 103.3 fever and was just miserable. She tossed and turned and flopped and flipped. She asked me every 10 minutes for "wawa" (water) and would snuggle her 103.3 degree body right into me, creating a furnace of sweaty sick. I barely slept a wink because I felt like I could feel how awful she felt.

I suppose when you carry another human inside you for 9 months, you have a level of connectedness.

We were both in desperate need of sleep but we just couldn't get there. We were tired, hot, irritated, tired, tired and tired.
Then she sat up and leaned over and planted 2 kisses on my cheek and said "Mama".

That little girl speaks to my soul.

In other news, I've already failed at my New Years Resolution. I resolved to step up my style game and stop buying several of the same thing (ie. the same shirt in 4 different colors, or even 4 of the same color). It didn't last very long. What can I say, I like what I like.

Riddle of the day: When the roads are closed because of snow and no one can go to the gym, what do two mature adults argue about first thing in the morning?

Who get's to shovel the driveway as part of their workout for the day.

Enjoy the snowy day friends! Unless you live where it's warm and you are basking in the sun, planting in your garden and walking your dogs in only one layer of clothing.

Don't Call It A Comeback…Or Do!

Sunday, January 18, 2015
Hello! Oh, I've missed writing so much. And I've missed this blog so much!!!

I took about 6 months off from blogging. Not intentionally…life had just taken us in so many different directions and I was trying to figure out how to manage all of the beautiful changes while not becoming a complete crazy person.

Turns out the transition to motherhood can be pretty intense.

In an effort to compartmentalize everything, I attempted to move to a new blog, thinking a fresh start was in order. That didn't really do much for me. I have a weird attachment to this blog. Perhaps because it's where I started writing back in 2010.

I have been toying with the idea of starting to write at Have My Cake again for a few weeks now. I thought about the poor poor new blog and how I would be just leaving it behind to die a sad and lonely internet death and I thought about another new blog…but my mind just kept coming back to this one. It feels like home here.

You may notice that the posts from the past few years are missing. Don't worry…they wont be missing forever. I'm working on sifting through them and putting them in a safe place as archives, should anyone want to go back and check them out.

I'm very excited to be back where I belong and I'm looking forward to writing and sharing with you guys again.

I thought for this first return post, a Taking Stock was appropriate.

Currently I am…

Making: Coconut Creamer for my coffee
Cooking: Nothing in the oven…thats for sure! It died on us.
Drinking: Chia Kombucha. I can't get enough!
Wanting: A new oven
Looking: Outside at this rainy cold weather
Reading: Gentle Babies - Essential Oils and Natural Remedies for Pregnancy, Birth, Infants and Young Children
Wasting: As little as possible...
Wishing: My diffuser would arrive
Enjoying: Playing hide and seek with Aria. She is full of so much excitement when she finds me hiding.
Waiting: To feel well rested again…which will likely be in about 18-20 years.
Liking: That I am developing a close relationship with the bike this year. We're in love.
Wondering: How to crochet
Loving: The wet kisses from my sweet little girl
Hoping: Aria's night time wake ups stop soon. They just started about 2 weeks ago and they are brutal.
Marveling: At how full life can be
Needing: Food. I'm too cold to move.
Anticipating: Today's workout!
Contemplating: How I can talk PJ into getting chickens in a year or two
Smelling: Coffee
Wearing: Jeans and one of 3 of the same grey shirts that I own. Sylin like a boss.
Following: Tisses Pieces on Instagram.
Noticing: How many birds are outside our window. There are like 50 that live in this one bush
Knowing: That I married the perfect man for me
Thinking: About the future
Exploring: Essential Oils
Opening: Beans…time to make chili.

Have a great day everyone!
